SPLG understands the value in continuous and active management of
a patent portfolio. One effective tool SPLG uses to facilitate portfolio
management is a patent Score Board.
The patent Score Board separately tracks each patent and assigns a rank
to each patent based on a combination of criteria that seek to capture
the business value, technical merit and scope. The rankings for the
various criteria are combined to provide a rough “relative”
assessment of a patent portfolio. The patent Score Board also assigns
a “level” to each case referring to the different levels
of world-wide filing. Based upon the importance of each case, different
foreign filing strategies need to be identified.
